- REMINISCE
Remilekun Abdulkalid
Safaru aka Alaga Ibile is a
singer, rapper and writer who hails from Ogun State, his major rapping language
is Yoruba and he is also part of the Ibile
Untied Movement. With three hit albums under his belt Reminisce has proven
that rapping in Yoruba language doesn’t mean you are a local rapper as he has
used his style of music to gain international recognition.
In 2014 he was named as one of seven “world rappers you should meet” in Time Magazine and in the current year, after the release of his third studio album 'Baba Hafusa', Reminisce became the only African hip hop artist to have an album debut on Billboard Chart World Music category sitting at no 12. With songs like Kako Bi Chicken, Tesojue, 2Much, Local Rapper ft. Olamide x Phyno, Daddy Mi ft. Davido just to mention but a few, Reminisce is definitely the rapper everybody wants on their track.
3. PHYNO
Phyno Fyno, Azubuike Chibuzo Nelson by name started his musical career as a record producer in
2003 back in Enugu before moving to Lagos in 2010. Before switching from
production to rap, he had made name for himself as he has produced hit songs
for the likes of Timaya, Flavour, Nigga Raw, Ruggedman and the likes. Ever since he started rapping
in 2010, Phyno has become a
household name in Nigeria as everyone wants to feature the indigenous Igbo
spitting rapper and even though some of us don't understand the lingua, we love
his voice and the way he delivers his bars, mhen that man of the year got us in
his shambles with his trade mark voice and hairstyle. You can't help but to
love him. After releasing hit singles like Man of the Year, Ghostmode ft Olamide, Parcel. Phyno released his first studio album titled “No Gut No Glory” which includes other hits tracks like Alobam, Yayo, O Set featuring the pop duo legends Psquare. Recently, Phyno released a joint album titled 2Kings with his musical buddy Olamide. After working with the likes of Psquare, Reminisce, Vector, Olamide, 9ice, Wizkid, Bracket, Timaya, Mo Cheddah, Blackmagic, Dj Xclusive, Phyno is now one of the most sought after rappers in Nigeria.
2. OLAMIDE
Born Olamide Adedeji,
Lagos boy, Bariga to be precise, King
Badoo like he's fondly called has been regard as the most consistent
indigenous rapper in the industry after releasing a total of four mind blowing albums
within the space of four years (2011-2014) and a collaborative album with Phyno in 2015. Olamide raps majorly in
Yoruba language and he has been constantly compared to the late DaGrin whom many say is the main reason
why indigenous rap is now generally accepted.
Badoo Sneh whose
latest single “Lagos Boys Sneh” is currently rocking everywhere, is the most
featured rap artiste in Nigeria and also the first Nigerian to sign an
endorsement deal with Ciroc. Some of
his punch lines and wordplays are “like java
I gat game, am from the project I gat fame” “emi o ki se p.o.p mi o le hold e
down” “Jesus Christ o ma ni geh jesu ma she miracle”. The rapper who is
regarded as the voice of the street is also said to have the largest fan base
among his fellow rappers as he has been able to make is musical style accepted
in almost every corner of Nigeria. Ndigbo
people sef like am.
- VECTOR
The Ogun State born Olanrewaju
Ogunmefun is one of Nigeria’s hottest rappers at the moment having dropped
two albums and two mixtapes ever since his rise to stardom in 2010. V.E.C like he fondly calls himself has
a unique rap style which fans have compared to that of American rapper Jay-z and he is also known for his
versatility.
His recent single King Kong is so hot that it had two remixes,
one which features the likes of Reminisce, Phyno,
Uzi and Claasiq and the second remix features Ghanaian hottest and fastest
rapper Sarkodie. Vector who has
collaborated with the likes of 2Face,
Fuji star Adewale Ayuba, Reminisce, Blackmagic, Sarkodie, 9ice, Olamide, Mode 9, Sexy Steel, A.Q, Mavado (Jamaican
international), Banky W to mention a
few is said to be working on his third studio album which is expected to drop
at the later part of this year.
Vector is regarded as the current king of punch lines and
wordplays which can be said to be his trade mark and what makes him stand out
among other rappers and here are some of those punch lines and wordplay that
leaves his fans and many others thinking where's
that guy got his brain from #check “if
I dey piss you off, go weewee” “I am too hot, I can give the sun a tent” “emi
wa scapegoat but mi o fe eran iya osogbo” “flows so hard my fans are
floodvictim” “because this p***y nigga’s no mind f**k you my paddy” and
many more. Vector has got it for sure and for us absolutely and whole
heartedly. He deserves more accolades than what he's getting. Pulling through a
bad weekend of a record label deal and still pulled through. Damn!!! Vector is
the definition of "Naija got talent"
