Tunde
kept on chasing after the man that snatched his briefcase as he was shouting ole ole ole but he didn't bother if he
was chasing him alone or not, all he was after was getting the man or his
briefcase whichever he could do first.
Tunde was this
close to getting his briefcase back as his speed was able to catch up with the
thief all he needed was to stretch his hands and grab it but that wasn't the
case because as he tried putting his hands on it Shadow switched the case to the other on hand while on the run and
this was what distracted him from paying attention to the road that he didn't
take note of the coming vehicle. Tunde couldn’t believe his eyes it was just a
matter seconds the car would have probably hit them both if he had laid his
hands on the briefcase yet again he was in another trouble because this thief
was hit by a car and with the looks of things, the hit of that magnitude can only
mean one thing, death.
As Tunde was trying to catch his breath he was surrounded by a large crowd as all were pointing fingers at him that he was the cause of the accident and this didn't even allow him pay attention to the briefcase nor the car that hit the thief. “You don kill, why you dey pursue am?, apayan” these were some of the words coming out of those that surrounded him. Tunde was very confused at this stage because he didn't even know what to say and his case got worst when he tried moving away from the crowd to see if he could locate the briefcase but part of the crowd didn't understand that, they thought he was trying to flee the scene so they pulled him back and started beating him right there on the spot.
Immediately Shadow was hit, eyewitness began to gather around his body and also around the car with some of them hitting the car so that the couple would come out and take a look at what they had done. The banging on the car became much more as many more people gather around and it was at this point the wife of the man in the car found her voice and said “I think we have to come down, let's check if he is still alive, we can still rush him to the hospital before this people decide to burn us in this car”. She was right about the burning part because two agbero in the crowd were already pouring fuel on the car as other were shouting all sort.
As they opened the car doors, the two agbero without wasting time rushed to their door and pulled them out of the car completely and as they were being dragged to where the body of the man they had hit was another agbero came shouting “ah ah ah, e ti pa, e ma ku ni, e pa Shadow”. There was someone in the crowd who couldn’t take the jungle justice and it was this person that dialed the Lagos State emergency number and before they could burn the couple alive the police arrived.
The arrival of the police was a big saving grace not only for the couple but also for Tunde who already had tyres round his neck and fuel been poured on him but then came officer Tanko and his crew to the rescue.
Officer Tanko with officer Takuti handled the couple while officer Jasper and officer Okonta took Tunde out of the crowd. After making sure that the couple and Tunde were safe, the officers began asking questions about what really happened as there were different versions of what really went down from the crowd. Officer Okonta went ahead to whisper some words into officer Tanko's ear and it was after this he decided that all of them should be talking to the station.
The Station
“Please officer I want to see my fiancĂ©e where is he.......” Yetunde said as she dashed into the station.
It was like a
mad house the way Yetunde was
shouting at the policemen in the station, she was furious with the fact that
they said if she wasn't the lawyer she couldn’t see Tunde. It took the
intervention of the DPO to calm her
down as she was really raising her voice at the policemen and the policemen
didn't even take it likely with her as officer Takuti threatened to lock her up
if she doesn’t keep quiet. He said “Madam
I go lock up now, shey you no know say na station be this, dem no dey make
noise ooooo”.
DPO: Madam it is enough, you don't have to raise your voice, step into my office let's talk
Yetunde: DPO I am not going anywhere until I see my Tunde
DPO: you would see him, I just spoke with your father, so don't worry let's just step into my office and have a small discussion at least won't you like to know why we arrested him?
Yetunde thought to herself as she concluded that having a chat with the DPO concerning what got Tunde arrested won’t be a bad either but before she went into the DPO office she said this to officer Takuti and officer Jasper “wait till my lawyer gets here then we go know who dem go lock up, nonsense”
